what to expect
Short, comic diary entries from Abbie Wu’s mind! This project is a diary-style novella from the FRAZZLED universe. It was originally published in semi-weekly installments, but is now complete and available (see above).
why i made it
When the whole coronavirus outbreak happened, I wasn’t able to focus on much else. I was living alone, missing my friends and family, and searching for a way to process what was going on in the world (and in my head). So I decided to channel all the chaotic energy and anxious feelings into my fictional alter ego, Abbie Wu!
The FRAZZLED books always served as an outlet for me to release and work through some big feelings, but once the series finished last year, I didn’t think I’d get a chance to write about these characters again.
Then I saw some TV writers/creators imagining what their characters would be doing in a pandemic (see: the Parks & Recreation reunion episode) and I started to wonder—
What would Abbie Wu be doing in quarantine?
If I’m honest, I also wanted to do this because I kind of need Abbie Wu right now. Even though our experiences may be different, we are both frazzled and worried and doing our best to get through it. Writing about these uncertain times through Abbie has helped me focus on making something familiar and fun. Hopefully it’s fun for you, the reader, too!
what it’s about
Everybody is in lockdown because of the pandemic—including Abbie Wu! Like most schools, Pointdexter Middle School is out until further notice, but that hasn’t stopped Abbie’s homeroom teacher, Ms. Skelter, from assigning homework: a quarantine journal!
They’re supposed to use it to record their thoughts and feelings, but Abbie has SO MANY that she’s not sure where to start… it’s enough to make anyone feel frazzled!
The last thing she wants to do is write about it, but as she pours her feelings into her diary, Abbie discovers that, even in scary and uncertain times, you can still find humor and hope in the things that really matter.
